This calculator employs various complex statistics to determine the optimum strategy for each hand while playing Texas Hold'Em Poker.

The Hold'Em Strategy Calculator is based on a year long research project by Dr. Walter F. Cavanagh, a University Professor specializing in Statistics and Quantitative Methods. This calculator employs various complex statistics to determine the optimum strategy for each hand while playing Texas Hold'Em Poker.

This strategy is based on being a tight and aggressive player in a typical game (it assumes 11 players but if there are only ten then simply ignore seat 1). Following this strategy will require a lot of patience, as you will be mucking a lot of hands. Impatience is probably the poor players biggest enemy. However, if this strategy, which has been gleaned from the advice of many top professional players and statistical research is followed, beginners should expect to win. Intermediate players should want to use this card to identify short comings in their play and to periodically compare to their developing strategies.

There are three facets of holdem. There is card play, betting strategy and player psychology. Psychology is based on perceptions of other players card strength or weakness based on such things as their body english. Skill at telling (tells) when players are strong or weak is only attained through study, experience and observation. This card attends to the other two, card play and betting strategy. While this does not guarantee that you will always win, it will ensure that you have the basics to begin to be a good player. These strategies are good basics but should be overruled when faced with tells indicating unusual situations.
